I haven’t been getting OwlCrate boxes for very long but I am constantly being blown away by how completely awesome the ones I receive are. The OwlCrate September box theme was “Mythical Creatures” and was definitely as good as was promised. This box was perfect for people who like mythology and mythical creatures, and had items inspired by Game of Thrones, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, plus some other, more general goodies! As usual the box had a OwlCrate pin that matches the art card.
First item was a small container of bath salts by The Soap Librarian which smell like eucalyptus and have tiny little flower petals in it. This item was themed for Percy Jackson (which I still haven’t read).
I love collecting stickers even if I don’t really have too many places to actually stick them. The die-cut sticker in this box was designed by Susanne Draws and has Hagrid and Buckbeak on it and is so cute that I really need to find somewhere to put it.
I ADORE ANY AND ALL BOOKMARKS BY INK AND WONDER!!!!!!!! The Mother of Dragons woodmark in this box was made exclusively for it by Paris and, as usual, she has done an absolutely stunning job.
Next is a cute dragon coin purse designed by Team OwlCrate. Usually I wouldn’t end up using an item like this because they are usually quite flimsy but this purse is made of canvas and seems to be more durable than normal so I think I will actually end up using this one.
Lastly the item that everyone has been waiting for, a beautiful book sleeve by Book Beau. This is the only one that I own and IT IS STUNNING!!!
The book for this month is Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows which, like most books in OwlCrate’s boxes, has an exclusive cover (the writing on it is gold instead of the silver that is on the original).
Mira Minkoba is the Hopebearer. Since the day she was born, she’s been told she’s special. Important. Perfect. She’s known across the Fallen Isles not just for her beauty, but for the Mira Treaty named after her, a peace agreement which united the seven islands against their enemies on the mainland.
But Mira has never felt as perfect as everyone says. She counts compulsively. She struggles with crippling anxiety. And she’s far too interested in dragons for a girl of her station.
Then Mira discovers an explosive secret that challenges everything she and the Treaty stand for. Betrayed by the very people she spent her life serving, Mira is sentenced to the Pit–the deadliest prison in the Fallen Isles. There, a cruel guard would do anything to discover the secret she would die to protect.
No longer beholden to those who betrayed her, Mira must learn to survive on her own and unearth the dark truths about the Fallen Isles–and herself–before her very world begins to collapse.
Along with this book came a letter from the author, an awesome illustrated guide to the dragons in the book, and a signed book plate which you will never see me complain about because as far as I am concerned I count my books with signed bookplates in them as signed editions (which I adore owning).
All in all this was a pretty awesome box, which I now expect from OwlCrate (I usually only buy the boxes month to month but I’m honestly considering subscribing). Next month, October’s theme is “Find Me In the Forest” and has items inspired by Harry Potter, Robin Hood, The Raven Boys, Princess Mononoke, Where the Wild Things Are, and others (One of the items is a a mug and another is an exclusive candle by In the Wick of Time). My guess for the book next month is Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore. If you have decided that you super like what is in an OwlCrate box here is the link so that you can order one of your own!
