Once again I have been absolutely blown away by the awesomeness that is OwlCrate! The OwlCrate September box theme was “Castles, Courts and Kingdoms” and was definitely as amazing as I thought it would be. This box was perfect for people who fantasy books, and had items inspired by A Court of Mist and Fury, Harry Potter, The Grisha Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones! As usual the box also included a OwlCrate pin that matched the art card.
The November box contained:
- A Grisha army crest brooch from Juniper and Ivy Designs
- Elven bread soap from Fizzy Fairy Apothecary
- An ACOMAF notebook designed by Stella Bookish Art
- Blackberry mint Game of Thrones lip balm from Geek Fire Labs
- An Expecto Patronum beanie from Team OwlCrate
The book for this month was The Glass Spare by Lauren Destefano, which is an awesome sounding fantasy book about “a princess whose touch turns people to gemstone, and the epic journey she goes on in search of a cure for her curse.” While this book does sound crazy good, to be completely honest I’m not a gigantic fan of the front cover (which, like most books in OwlCrate’s boxes, is an exclusive cover. In this case, the writing on it is purple instead of the blue that is on the original).
A banished princess.
A deadly curse.
A kingdom at war.
Wil Heidle, the only daughter of the king of the world’s wealthiest nation, has grown up in the shadows. Kept hidden from the world in order to serve as a spy for her father—whose obsession with building his empire is causing a war—Wil wants nothing more than to explore the world beyond her kingdom, if only her father would give her the chance.
Until one night Wil is attacked, and she discovers a dangerous secret. Her touch turns people into gemstone. At first Wil is horrified—but as she tests its limits, she’s drawn more and more to the strange and volatile ability. When it leads to tragedy, Wil is forced to face the destructive power within her and finally leave her home to seek the truth and a cure.
But finding the key to her redemption puts her in the path of a cursed prince who has his own ideas for what to do with her power.
With a world on the brink of war and a power of ultimate destruction, can Wil find a way to help the kingdom that’s turned its back on her, or will she betray her past and her family forever?
Along with this book came a letter from the author, some temporary tattoos, and a signed book plate which you will never see me complain about because as far as I am concerned I count my books with signed bookplates in them as signed editions (which I adore owning).
All in all this was a pretty awesome box, which I definitely expect from OwlCrate. Next month, December’s theme is “Seize the Day” and has items inspired by Harry Potter, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Everything Everything, The Serpent King, Percy Jackson and others (One of the items is an exclusive item designed by Bookworm Boutique and another is an exclusive candle from Novelly Yours). If you have decided that you super like what is in an OwlCrate box here is the link so that you can order one of your own!
